A YouTube channel named hochelaga has explained reasons why Bible accurate angels are creepy:
Instead of those beautiful, angelic, humanoids the bible depicts bizarre animal/human hybrids, fiery winged beasts and wheels made of eyes. It isn’t certain, but most believe that they are descendants of mythical beasts across the Ancient Near East.
Contrary to the kind of angels we are used to:
Bible accurate angels look like this:
The video explains that the actual reason is because angels (from Greek ΞΞ³Ξ³Ξ΅Ξ»ΞΏΟ = βmessengerβ) were godβs representatives and, as such, were the localised embodiment of god.
That means that to look at an angel was to look directly at god. To look at god was to risk death. Remember how Moses only looked at godβs back as god passed by.
Maimonides, a Jewish scholar from the 12th century, wrote a hierachy of angels.
Humanoid angels are on the third tier called Malakh.
They are messengers of God and are the closest looking to us humans.
Cherubim, later shortened to Cherub, is the lowest in rank among the four.
The Bible describes these beings as animal-human hybrids.
The 2nd rank, Seraphim, is an angelic being that surrounds the throne of God.
The prophet describes them as having six wings, two of which are for flying, while they use the rest to cover their heads and feet.
The highest rank is Ophanim, or ‘the wheels’. They guard Godβs throne.
Ezekielβs account in the Bible describes them as beings made out of interlocking gold wheels with each wheelβs exterior covered with multiple eyes. They move by floating themselves in the sky.
